Addys 2007

So Saturday night we went to the Addy awards once again and it was more different than the year before.

  • 01. Being that not everyone had a place to sit down.
  • 02. The food was a bit better than the year before, the shrimp & grits were pretty damn good.
  • 03. The judges must have been smoking crack this year… seriously…
  • 04. TIGHT quarters… not only could people not sit down, but you could hardly walk anywhere.
  • 05. I like the boxing theme, Gypsie and Kelly got in there for some photos, sorry not mud wrestling.

I could go on, but I think that is enough for now. We left the party and hung out at Marc’s “Pub” … Two words, Crowded & Freezing! But when you get a crew like us together the humor starts flying… Fraser + Shelf = Blood.

Then we went to a local bar till 2am. All and all it was a fun night and I quote, “Gypsie and I look like we walked out of a Vogue magazine.”

Thanks for the photos Tate!

UPDATE: (We didn’t do as bad as I thought…)

The Jackson Advertising Federation awarded Maris, West & Baker (MWB) 16 Gold and 11 Silver ADDYs at the 2007 ADDY Awards®, continuing the agency’s streak of winning more gold awards and more awards overall than any other agency in the competition.”

Hit’em Up Austin!

Hit'em Up Austin! So the word is out now! I got to meet and skate with Rob & Big tonight at Doc*36. More on that later…

Update:
It was an interesting night, Rob & Big showed up to film for the second season of the show Rob & Big on MTV. I got to have a good conversation with Chris “Big Black” Boykin and skate with Rob Dyrdek for awhile why he was trying his tricks for the video. They turned out to be really cool guys and I would hang with them again anytime.

Same night Patrick Melcher & Danny Gonzalas showed up as well to ride the skatepark before their demo the next day… Danny accidently left his board at the skateshop they were doing an autograph signing earlier that day because they rushed them out of the store… So I got to skate a little with them some…

The Pick Of DestinyThose Tenacious D boys have created a masterpiece once again with their new movie. Featuring (of course) Jack Black & Kyle Gas and Sasquatch!!! The story unfolds with a band trying to make it big, but need the pick of destiny. This is SURE to be one of the funniest pieces of work you will ever see!

Its funny these ads were released around the time when Nike gave its first go at making skateboard shoes. Although these adds were very good, they actually may have pushed skaters away further, by making it look like they were trying to hard to fit in w/ the skateboarding community. Now a couple of years later, Nike SB take 2, they are fully established as a shoe company for skateboarding. But there ads follow a more skateboard formulaic approach, trying not to stick out as much as the 11 billion dollar company they are. Nike had to wait out an entire generation of anti-corporate skateboarders and now they are accepted. I would rather have these kids save there money so they can buy alcohol or drugs instead of buying nikes. At least this way in there altered state they could actually realize the hipocracy which is nike in skateboarding. NIKE ISN’T SKATEBOARDING
